Wet Hop American Summer After Dark
Wet Hop American Summer is our annual Fresh Hop beer, with the recipe changing each harvest season. This year we decided to go with a dark American wheat beer for the base recipe with 40 pounds of fresh Citra hops, which were harvested at ripeness and then immediately shipped to our brew pub over night. 2-Row, wheat, and cara malts were mixed with a smidgen of Briess Midnight Wheat, a debittered black wheat malt, which lends this ale it’s blackish hue with mahogany highlights. 95% percent of the hops were added in the last 15 minutes of the boil and post-boil combined, for maximum flavor and aroma effect. The result is a dark but extremely smooth and drinkable ale with a huge nose of juicy fruit and grassy mango, with pungent hops, bready malt, and coffee notes coming through in the flavor. The finish is clean and silky without the lingering bitterness that one might expect from the aroma of this beer. One can easily envision themselves strolling amongst the hop fields after the sun has gone down while enjoying this special brew.
Wet Hop American Summer After Dark goes on tap Friday, September 28, 2012 and will be available until it is gone.
